State Representative John Raney Proposes New Idea For Adding Brazos County Members To Blinn College’s Board Of Trustees

Brazos County representation on the Blinn College board of trustees will end November 30th.

That’s after legislation to remove a sunset provision to continue two appointed members failed to move from the House to the Senate.

Representative John Raney, who wrote House Bill 645, now proposes Brazos County voters make the decision whether to pursue becoming part of Blinn’s taxing district, which would add elected members to the board.

WTAW News has asked Blinn’s chancellor and trustees board chairman for a response to the idea of expanding the college’s taxing district to include Brazos County…something Raney said he would support.

Raney says he would be available as a resource if there is interest in a petition drive.

And he continues to give a shout out to Blinn’s recent efforts in Brazos County.

Raney thanked Brazos County’s appointed members of the Blinn board. Ann Horton of Bryan served the entire four years the position was available. And Jason Jennings of College Station is finishing his second year.

On May 10, WTAW News asked Blinn College for a statement from the chancellor or the board of trustees chairman for a response to Raney’s proposal. When we get that response, it will be added to this story.
