NORMAN, Okla.- Texas A&M’s women’s golf team concluded the first year of the Andrea Gaston era at the NCAA Norman Regional Wednesday, marking the program’s 19th straight appearance at NCAA Regionals.

The Aggies finished in 13th place at 36-over, shooting a 16-over 304 at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in the final round. Texas won the event at 9-under, and represents the Norman Regional at the NCAA Championship along with Florida, Wake Forest, Purdue, Arizona State and Ole Miss.

Kaitlin Milligan of Oklahoma and Olivia Mehaffey of Arizona State shared top honors individually at 8-under.

“Obviously, it wasn’t the finish I was hoping for, but I know that the girls gave it their best effort,” said head coach Andrea Gaston. “We had a few good things going today, we had decent rhythm and got off to a good start.”

Courtney Dow led the Aggies with a 2-over 74, posting three birdies during the round. She finished the tournament tied for 42nd at 5-over 221. Ava Schwienteck shot a 3-over 75, recovering from a double-bogey on her first hole. Schwienteck, who had two birdies Wednesday on the par 72 / 6,367-yard course, tied for 51st at 9-over 225.

Amber Park sank three birdies, and wrote a 5-over 77 on her card, tying for 59th at 11-over. Brooke Tyree had a 6-over 78 to finish in the tie for 59th as well.

Chloe Velasco concludes her Texas A&M career, finishing her first NCAA Regional tied for 79th. In her career, she played in 66 rounds, six of which were par-or-better. She shot a 9-over 81 today to finish with a 17-over 233.

The Aggies finished the season with 399 birdies, the fifth-most in program history. Texas A&M had 10 team rounds of par-or-better, which ranks third on the school’s all-time list.

“This is just another year’s worth of experience for the team, and we will get back to work and get ready for next season,” added Gaston. “I’m encouraged by what I saw this season. Even though it is the end of the season, we’re ready to keep going and get this program back in the thick of things.”

Three Aggies earned weekly honors from the SEC this year, as Dow (Mar. 20) and Park (Mar. 6) each won SEC Golfer of the Week. Tyree was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Mar. 6.

Every individual in the Texas A&M lineup improved their stroke average in their first year under Gaston, with four of the five slated to come back next season.
