UPDATE: Overturned Chicken Semi Closes Boonville Road For Five Hours

Boonville Road between University and the Harvey/Elmo Weedon Road intersection was closed for five hours Thursday morning after a semi hauling chickens overturned.

Bryan police report the semi driver attempted to avoid striking a pickup on Elmo Weedon that failed to yield the right of way while crossing Boonville.

Instead, the semi sideswiped the pickup and the semi rolled onto the driver’s side door.

It took two hours for emergency personnel to remove the driver of the semi. Then he was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The 40 year old was last listed in stable condition.

The driver of the pickup and a passenger were not injured.

The crash was reported at 5:30 a.m., and Boonville Road was reopened shortly before 11 a.m.

Original story from Bryan Police:

An 18-wheeler transporting chickens has turned over near FM158 and Harvey Road. The section of FM 158 between the intersections of Elmo Weedon/Harvey Road and University is currently shut down in both directions and is expected to remain shut down for several hours for clean up.
