Texas A&M Equestrian Narrowly Defeated by Georgia

WACO, Texas – No. 2 Texas A&M Equestrian saw its run at the team championship come to an end as the Aggies fell to No. 6 Georgia, 8-7, Thursday night at the National Collegiate Equestrian Championships at the Extraco Events Center.

The Aggies (11-6) quickly jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, sweeping Equitation over Fences. Caroline Dance defeated Maddy Darst, 246-223, prior to Grace Boston knocking off Ali Tritschler, 238-204. Haley Redifer concluded the event with a 258-232 victory over Hayley Mairano.

In Horsemanship, the teams tied at 2-2 to give Texas A&M a 5-2 advantage at the half. Ashley Davidson topped Lexie Lane, 222-215.5, and Sarah Orsak defeated Maddie Anger 210.5-207.

Georgia swept Reining, 4-0, to take a 6-5 lead into the final event, Equitation on the Flat. Rebekah Chenelle secured the first point with a 225-216 triumph against Tritschler. Dance toppled Darst, 224-217.

The Aggies are still in the hunt in the event national championships and will begin action Friday at 8:35 a.m. with Equitation over Fences and Reining quarterfinals. Equitation on the Flat quarterfinals are scheduled for a 1:56 p.m. start and Horsemanship is slated to begin at 3:31 p.m.
