The 14th time a Bryan man is booked in the Brazos County jail, it’s for more than a dozen charges that results in bonds totaling $248,000 dollars.

According to Bryan police, Sunday night’s arrest of 28 year old Derek Smith Jr. began with a traffic stop because his car did not have a working license plate light.

Smith is accused of evading arrest in his car, then jumping out while the car was in motion and running away on foot until an officer found him.

According to online jail records, Smith is also being held on two counts of armed robbery that took place last Thursday, five vehicle burglaries that took place last year, charges in two upcoming trials, driving with an invalid license with prior convictions, and unlawful possession of a gun by a felon.

The armed robbery was a home invasion holdup in west Bryan where money was taken at gunpoint from two women who knew Smith. Two other suspects are still at large.
