Bicyclist Struck At Texas And Harvey

A bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle Monday night at Texas and Harvey in College Station was taken to the hospital with injuries that are incapacitating but not believed to be life threatening.

College Station police report the bicyclist did not yield the right of way and the vehicle had the green light when the collision occurred.

According to a CSPD news release, while the bicyclist did commit a traffic offense, he was not issued a ticket at the time due to the priority of his medical needs.

The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet.

The news release did not state if the bicycle had lights and/or reflectors.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

News release from College Station police:

On April 8, 2019 at approximately 2207 hrs, officers with the College Station Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Texas Ave and Harvey Rd for a crash involving a motor vehicle and a bicyclist.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for incapacitating injuries.

Witness testimony and video evidence determined that the bicyclist failed to yield right of way to a motor vehicle that had a green light.

Though the bicyclist’s injuries were serious, they are not believed to be life threatening.

The next of kin was notified, but due to the delay in travel time for family, the identity of the bicyclist will not be released at this time.

While the bicyclist did commit a traffic offense, he was not issued a citation at the time due to the priority of his medical needs.
