Aggie Baseball Drops Rubber Match to LSU, 9-3

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – The No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies dropped the series rubber match to the No. 12 LSU Tigers, 9-3, Saturday night at Alex Box Stadium.

Chandler Jozwiak (3-3) labored through 2.0 innings, plus three batters in the third, yielding three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two. Chris Weber pitched admirably in relief, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out six in 3.2 innings.

Mikey Hoehner led Texas A&M at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Logan Foster batted 2-for-4 with one RBI.

After the first inning, in which they scored two runs, the Aggies were only able to get the leadoff man aboard one time. The Maroon & White had just four at-bats with runners in scoring position, hitting 1-for-4.

Texas A&AM busses back to College Station with a 25-8-1 overall record and a 7-4-1 mark in league action. LSU improved to 23-10 overall and 8-4 in SEC play.

The Aggies host the Texas State Bobcats in a 6:32 p.m. contest Tuesday on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

T1 | Bryce Blaum was hit by the first pitch of the game and Cam Blake reached on an infield single. After Braden Shewmake struck out for the first out of the frame, Blake and Blaum pulled off the double steal to put runners on second and third. Hoehner bounced a 2-2 pitch up the middle for a two-run single. A&M 2, LSU 0.

B3 | Hal Hughes singled to rightfield, Brock Mathis was issued a five-pitch base on balls and Josh Smith singled through the right side to load the bases. Zach Watson blasted a sharp grounder off the glove of a sliding Braden Shewmake at short to knock in two runs and drive Jozwiak from the contest. Weber retired the first two batters he faced before hitting Brandt Broussard with a pitch to reload the bases. Cade Beloso knocked a single through the left side, plating Watson with the go-ahead run. LSU 3, A&M 2.

B5 | With one out, Watson hit a 2-2 offering into the leftfield bleachers for a solo home run. LSU 4, A&M 2.

B7 | With one out, Smith was hit by a pitch and Watson singled to leftfield. Antoine Duplantis plated Smith with a single to centerfield, Chris Reid drove in Watson with a sacrifice fly and, after a wild pitch, Broussard pushed Duplantis across with a single up the middle. LSU 7, A&M 2.

B8 | With two outs, Mathis worked a five-pitch walk and Smith hit a first-pitch offering over the fence in right-center. LSU 9, A&M 2.

T9 | With one out, Hoehner had a chopper sit on the chalk half down the first-base line for a single. He moved to second on a wild pitch and scored when Foster slashed a single back through the mound. LSU 9, A&M 3.
