Texans Against High Speed Rail Hold News Conference In Leon County District Courtroom

A news conference is held by opponents of the high speed passenger train between Houston and Dallas in the Leon County district courtroom where they claim a final victory over project developer Texas Central.

Texans Against High Speed Rail (TAHSR) televised their event on their Facebook page.

Dallas attorney Blake Beckham, who represents Leon County landowners Jim and Barbara Miles, says a Leon County judge ruled that Texas Central has no standing to exercise eminent domain authority.

Landowner Barbara Miles hopes the Leon County ruling serves as an inspiration for the everyday man to be heard.

A statement from Texas Central cited a ruling from a Harris County judge that it is a bona fide railroad company.

Texas Central is also appealing the Leon County ruling. TAHSR chairman Kyle Workman says they will fight all the way to the Supreme Court.

Texas Central’s statement also indicated as a railroad company, the Texas constitution and state laws have long granted eminent domain authority to railroads that provide for a public good and a strong economy.
