Texas A&M And The A&M System Hosting A Delegation From Saudi Arabia

Moving the economy of Saudi Arabia away from primarily oil and gas could involve Texas A&M’s college of medicine.

The purpose of a three day international meeting on the A&M campus this week is finalizing a public-private international partnership for a multiple year research study to investigate stem cell therapies for those with Alzheimer’s disease.

Brett Cornwell, who manages technology commercialization at A&M, says the agreement will provide the framework for other projects.

Opening remarks from A&M system chancellor John Sharp included he and former Aggie football coach Jackie Sherrill receiving stem cell treatments.

Sherrill also attended the meeting as a representative of a Houston based stem cell company co-founded by former system chancellor and board of regents chairman David Eller.

The delegation from Saudi Arabia represented that country’s academic research, science and technology communities.
