News release from College Station police:

On November 07, 2018, at about 0757 hrs, officers were dispatched to the area of Rio Grande Blvd and Harvey Mitchell Parkway for a report of a small child unaccompanied near a heavy traffic area. Nearby College Station Fire Department personnel and other concerned persons stopped out with the four year old female child to prevent her from wandering into traffic. The child was unable tell the responding officers where she lived or other identifiers. Officers checked with nearby schools and daycares but were unable to determine where the child lived.

After a considerable amount of time with no calls reporting a missing child, officers reached out to the public through social media sources. These efforts resulted in tips that led to the identity of the child’s parent. After about three hours from the time that the child was found, officers located the mother at an apartment a few blocks away. She was unaware that the child was missing. An investigation revealed that the mother had left her residence earlier in the morning without leaving the child with responsible care. The mother had returned about an hour later and saw that the child was not in her bed, but never made efforts to locate or check the welfare of the child. The mother was placed in custody due to the risk of harm to the child. Child Protective Services responded to assist with the investigation.
