Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial Has Two Programs On Veterans Day

There are two programs on Veterans Day Sunday at Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial (BVVM) in observance of the 100th anniversary of the ending of World War I.

BVVM board member Steve Beachy says the new World War I memorial, called “Over The Top”, will be dedicated at 4 p.m.

Beachy says the sculpture depicts two doughboy soldiers in a simulated World War I trench environment, with one of the soldiers providing cover while the other goes over the top to advance towards the enemy.

The featured speaker is a former director of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation and former U.S. Archivist Don Wilson.

The dedication also includes the reading of names of the 63 Aggie alumni and 41 Brazos County residents who died in World War I.

Then at 5:30, is the annual BVVM Veterans Day program. Beachy says 338 names are being added to the Wall of Honor.

The featured speaker is the dean of the Bush School at Texas A&M, retired Air Force general and former Air Force chief of staff Mark Welsh.

Sunday’s events at Veterans Park begins at 2 p.m. with a concert by the Brazos Valley Chorale and Brazos Brass quintet at the American Pavilion.
