Bryan/College Station Chamber Of Commerce Holds Annual Banquet

The Bryan/College Station chamber of commerce celebrated its first one hundred years Monday night at the organization’s annual banquet.

The banquet’s featured speaker, Texas A&M president Michael Young, began by recalling what happened the local chamber was founded in 1918 and how the U.S. economy has changed over that time. Young also gave examples of research work at A&M, he thanked the research partnership between A&M and the local business community…where every research dollar generates eight dollars in local economic activity, and he asked for the business community’s continuing support…particularly in next year’s legislative session.

Reports were given by the chamber’s 2018 board chair, Crystal Dupre of The Eagle, and the chamber’s 2019 board chair, Vicki Reim of BTU.

Three awards were presented. Chamber president Glen Brewer announced the ambassador of the year was Ben Caldwell of Copy Corner.

Dupre introduced the chamber’s volunteer of the year recipient, Zach Etheridge of Hbi Office Solutions.

Reim introduced the chamber’s citizen of the year, Ben Downs of Bryan Broadcasting. Mr. Downs then shared his observations of being in the local community since 1972 when he started at A&M.
