Fatal Motorcycle Accident

The intersection of Wellborn Road and FM 2818 was closed for almost two hours Sunday night due to an accident that left one person dead.

According to a College Station police news release, a motorcycle traveling north on Wellborn Road ran a red light striking a car turning left at the intersection.

The motorcyclist, 29 year-old Daniel Robert Reetz of College Station, died at the scene.

The driver of the car was not injured.

According to CSPD, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

News release from College Station Police:

On November 4, 2018 at about 2113 hours officers with the College Station Police Department responded to a major accident at the intersection of FM 2154 (Wellborn Rd) and FM 2818 (Harvey Mitchell Parkway). Upon arrival officers observed a passenger car and a motorcycle which had been involved in the crash.

The investigation in the crash found that a silver Toyota Prius was turning left at the intersection from FM 2154 onto the on ramp of FM 2818. A motorcycle was in the inside lane of FM 2154 travelling North. Witnesses stated that the light for northbound traffic on FM 2154 was red. The motorcycle ran the red light and struck the Toyota Prius on the passenger side.

The rider on the motorcycle was pronounced deceased on scene. Next of kin was notified. The driver of the Toyota Prius was not injured.

The intersection of FM 2154 and FM 2818 was closed for approximately 2 hours to conduct the investigation. The roadway is now open.

Daniel Robert Reetz
29 years of age
College Station Resident
