Guerrieri Contract Extended through 2022

Aggie Soccer head coach G Guerrieri recently agreed to a three-year contract extension through the 2022 season, the Texas A&M Athletics Department announced Thursday.

One of the winningest coaches in the history of NCAA Division I soccer, Guerrieri has established Texas A&M as a premier program in the nation. Under his tutelage, the Aggies are one of only five teams to play in every NCAA Tournament the last 23 seasons. Entering his 26th season as the Aggies’ skipper, Guerrieri has led the Maroon & White to 14 Sweet Sixteens, six Elite Eights and an appearance in the 2014 Women’s College Cup.

“G has set a standard of excellence that has put our soccer program among the nation’s best, so it’s great to be able to extend his contract through 2022,” said Scott Woodward, Director of Athletics. “He runs his program the right way, graduating student-athletes at a high level, producing excellent representatives of our University, and consistently competing at a championship level.”

Guerrieri ranks fifth all-time among NCAA Division I coaches with 441 wins and 10th in winning percentage at .747. He ranks fourth in both categories among active Division I coaches. He has guided Texas A&M to nine conference regular-season titles and eight conference tournament crowns. Guerrieri is a four-time conference coach of the year and three-time NSCAA Central Region Coach of the Year.

“I’ve been blessed to be the soccer coach at Texas A&M,” Guerrieri said. “I am very proud of our incredible student-soccer players and to work alongside such a gifted group of coaches, professionals, and educators on my staff. Terri and I absolutely love this community and are so happy to be raising our three kids in Aggieland. This has always been a labor of love for me, so it is especially gratifying to know that we’re being supported by Mr. Woodward, the Athletics Department and the University by extending my contract again. I am looking forward to a very bright future as we continue our progress toward excellence on and off the field with the Aggie Soccer program.”

Guerrieri has firmly established the Aggies as the top squad in the soccer hotbed of Texas, leading A&M to a 27-0-5 record against in-state rivals since the 2008 campaign.

The Aggies have also experienced academic success under Coach Guerrieri. For the sixth consecutive year, the team earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, for a squad having a composite GPA of at least 3.0 for all team members who appear on the official NCAA roster for the fall season.

Texas A&M wrapped up the 2017 season with a program best winning percentage (.864) on 18-2-2 mark. The Aggies earned a bid to their 23rd consecutive NCAA Championship and advanced to the second round of the tournament for the 19th straight season.

The Maroon & White open the 2018 campaign on August 17 as they travel to Honolulu for a match against the Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine. Texas A&M has an exhibition match scheduled at Ellis Field for Saturday, August 11 vs. TCU.
