Helman Leaving Texas A&M to Pursue MLB Career

Texas A&M second baseman Michael Helman has announced that he will forego his senior season at Texas A&M to pursue a career in the major leagues.

Helman, who was drafted in the 11th round by the Minnesota Twins, has reportedly inked a $220,000 deal, according to’s Jim Callis.

A Lincoln, Nebraska native, Helman transferred to Texas A&M from Hutchinson (Kan.) CC, where he was named the NJCAA Player of the Year in 2017.

As a junior in 2018, Helman led the Aggies in batting average (.369), runs (61), hits (92), doubles (17) and was tied for the team lead in stolen bases with 12. He was also tabbed All-SEC Second Team at second base.
