“Stranger Danger” Report On A CSISD Campus Was An Honest Mistake That Results In A Training Exercise

College Station school district students and staff were commended this week for a “stranger danger” report that turned out to be a honest mistake.

Tuesday after school in the pickup area of College Station’s Oakwood Intermediate and Consolidated Middle schools, law enforcement received a report of someone driving a pickup attempting to pick up students.

After the incident, CSISD parents and guardians received an e-mail that stated no students got in the truck. The e-mail also stated that students and staff were able to get a description of the driver and the vehicle and get the license plate.

The next day, a CSISD spokesman told WTAW News the driver was identified as a father of one of the students.

Brazos County sheriff’s deputy Nathan Dennis told WTAW News the driver was talking to other students, and one of students mistakenly took it as an attempt to lure children into his truck.

Dennis said “this is the best result that we could have had on an incident like this.” “The quick response from not only the students but the staff members and local law enforcement to be able to investigate this and come up with the conclusion fairly quickly.” “If this had been a true incident, it (the response) worked perfectly.”

Dennis and CSISD officials remind parents and guardians to tell their children to not get into vehicles or go places with anyone they do not know.
