TxDOT Hosts Open House On Highway Changes Around RELLIS Campus & More Adjustments Coming To Airport Exit

Information from the TxDOT Bryan district office inviting citizens to an open house about upcoming highway changes around the RELLIS campus:

The Bryan District of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning crossover improvements to increase safety on a portion of SH 21 and SH 47 and accommodate anticipated traffic associated with the Texas A&M RELLIS Campus.

The safety improvements will include constructing one way crossovers, removing existing crossovers, and adding deceleration and acceleration turn lanes.

An informal open house is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at VFW Hall, Bryan.

TxDOT staff will display the plan and will be available to discuss the project.

Since this in an open-house format, no formal presentation is planned. Attendees may come and go at their convenience.

No additional right-of-way is required to accommodate the improvement.

No relocation of homes or businesses is required to accommodate the improvement.

Displays showing the design and other information regarding the project are also available for inspection at the District Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The district office is located at 2591 North Earl Rudder Freeway in Bryan.

Information from TxDOT Bryan district office regarding more adjustments for motorists going through the FM 2818/FM 60 interchange project:

Beginning Monday, May 21st, the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) contractor will close both ramps on the north side of FM 60 at FM 2818:

· FM 2818 Southbound Exit Ramp to FM 60
· FM 2818 Northbound Entrance Ramp from FM 60.

Southbound traffic can access FM 60 by continuing under the bridge and taking a left onto the south side ramp.

Detours for FM 60 traffic wanting to go north on FM 2818 will be signed to SH 47 and FM 1179 (Villa Maria Road).

Last week, TxDOT restricted left turn movements from the ramps. However, due to safety concerns and drivers not obeying the left turn restrictions, the contractor will install a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of the northbound ramp and FM 60 – reinstating the left turn movement. Closure of the ramps will allow for faster and safer construction and provide a better roadway product.

The accelerated construction methods will allow the contractor to complete the major interchange work and get to the diverging diamond interchange (DDI) configuration before the students return to the A&M Campus in August.

This work is part of the construction of the new DDI (diverging diamond interchange) which is one of only three in the State of Texas.

The project is expected to be complete in the Spring of 2019.
