Aggies Suffer 6-3 Loss in Series Finale

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas  – Arkansas grabbed an early lead and didn’t look back, as the Razorbacks completed the series sweep with a 6-3 win on Sunday at Baum Stadium.

The Razorbacks used a pair of hits and two A&M errors to plate a single run in the first. Eric Cole led off with a single. An error on an attempted turn of a double play scored Cole and put the hosts in front.

Arkansas added three more in the third. A walk and hit batter opened the inning, and Luke Bonfield’s seventh homer of the year put the Aggies in a 4-0 hole.

Texas A&M got on the board in the sixth. Cole Bedford singled to open the frame and advanced on a wild pitch. Hunter Coleman struck out, but reached via wild pitch to put runners at the corners. Chris Andritsos delivered off the bench with an RBI single to plate Bedford. Texas A&M had the bases loaded with just one out, but a double play ended the threat.

Michael Helman came close to tying things up in the seventh. With two on base, Helman put a charge into one to left, but Heston Kjerstad made the catch up against the wall to end the inning.

The Razorbacks plated two insurance runs in the eighth to push their lead to 6-1. Those runs proved costly, as the Aggies scored two runs in the ninth. Following a pair of walks, Bedford drove both in with a single up the middle for the final of 6-3.

Missed opportunities again hurt the Aggies. Texas A&M left nine on base, went 3-for-20 with runners on base and 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Stephen Kolek suffered the loss and dropped to 5-5. He worked the first 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts. Kaylor Chafin and Nolan Hoffman saw action out of the A&M bullpen.

Isaiah Campbell (4-5) got the start and the win for Arkansas, allowing five hits with seven strikeouts in five innings of work.

Arkansas moved to 36-15 and 17-10 in league play. Texas A&M dropped to 34-17 and 12-15 in the SEC.

The Aggies host Sam Houston State on Tuesday before concluding the regular season with a home series against South Carolina on May 17-19.
