UPDATE: IRS Website To Make Payments Returns Late On Tax Day

Update 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17:

The message posted most of Tuesday that the IRS payments website was unavailable was removed.

According to The Associated Press, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin says Americans who have been unable to pay their taxes Tuesday because the IRS payment website is down will receive an extension when the site is working again.

Mnuchin described the problem as a “high-volume technical issue” that the IRS is attempting to resolve.

Original story from The Associated Press

Just in time for tax day: the IRS website to make payments is down.

The IRS did not have an immediate explanation for the failure. But it said on its website that its online payment system became unavailable at 2:50 A.M. ET on Tuesday.

IRS Acting Commissioner David Kautter testified during a House Oversight Hearing Tuesday that a number of systems are down at the moment and that they are working to resolve the issue.
