College Station Council Asked To End Ban On Aggressive Dog Breeds At Apartment Complexes

The College Station city council was asked at their last meeting to end the restriction of specific dog breeds by apartment complexes.

Abigail Fields, who identified herself with the organization “Free The Breeds”, says their group learned out of 85 apartment complexes in College Station, only three have no breed restrictions. Fields says all three complexes that have no breed restrictions have high renewal rates and all maintain a very strict leash policy to ensure the safety of their residents.

Fields says while pit bulls, german shepherds, dobermans, and rotweilers can be aggressive, it depends on how the dogs are trained. She says the organization is interested in training and certifying dogs as “safe”.

There was no response from the council, due to state law which does not allow comment on items not on the agenda.
