Rosie The Riveter Statue Dedicated At The Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial

An icon of World War Two is now part of the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial (BVVM).

The dedication of a statue honoring Rosie The Riveter included remarks from the national president of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Lynn Forney Young, who lives in Milam County.

Six women who were real life Rosie’s during World War II who were in attendance were also recognized.

The program also included musical numbers from a group called the Brazos Valley WW II Homefront Musicians.

Rosie is the first statue of a woman, but not the last according to the president of the BVVM board of directors. Retired general Randy House says plans are underway for representatives of Women’s Airforce Service Pilots…or WASP’s…and nurses at the memorial.

The city of Bryan has provided a summary of proposed changes to the current animal ordinance. Tonight is the chance to speak to city officials. Comments by e-mail are being accepted through tomorrow.Friendly reminder! Today you have an opportunity to provide much wanted feedback on proposed changes to the existing animal ordinance. Citizens are welcome and encouraged to join us October 18th at 5:30 PM in Council Chambers for the Bryan Animal Center Advisory Committee meeting to share their thoughts.

These proposed changes are being discussed in an effort to update the City’s animal ordinance to better reflect adherence to state law, support community needs, and promote best practices in addressing common concerns.

You are able to review these ahead of time at Bryantx.gov/animalordinance. In the event you cannot join us in person for the meeting, please submit your comments in writing at animalservices@bryantx.gov by October 19th.
