Rosie The Riveter Statue Dedicated At The Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial

An icon of World War Two is now part of the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial (BVVM).

The dedication of a statue honoring Rosie The Riveter included remarks from the national president of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Lynn Forney Young, who lives in Milam County.

Six women who were real life Rosie’s during World War II who were in attendance were also recognized.

The program also included musical numbers from a group called the Brazos Valley WW II Homefront Musicians.

Rosie is the first statue of a woman, but not the last according to the president of the BVVM board of directors. Retired general Randy House says plans are underway for representatives of Women’s Airforce Service Pilots…or WASP’s…and nurses at the memorial.
