Divided CS Council Approves Expanding Current City Hall Site

A very divided College Station city council decided to build an expanded city hall complex at its current location instead of moving south.

James Benham and Jerome Rektorik were among the four members endorsing city staff’s plan for new construction in phases over multiple years.

Also voting to expand the current site were Barry Moore and Linda Harvell.

Julie Schultz and Blanche Brick wanted a new city hall on city owned property along Krenek Tap between Texas and Dartmouth.

And mayor Karl Mooney abstained, stating he could not decide between those options.

The design process is tentatively scheduled to begin next year, with construction planned for the following year.
