Texas A&M’s New Provost Visits The Faculty Senate

A steep learning curve continues for Texas A&M’s new provost.

Dr. Carol Fierke, who started September 1, addressed the faculty senate at its last meeting.

In opening comments, Fierke said faculty members they are the most important part of the university.

She also brought up increasing student retention and graduation rates, thinking about what academic innovation means to teachers in the classroom, and addressing lifelong learning.

She then fielded a variety of questions.

As A&M’s chief academic officer, Fierke oversees 16 colleges and schools, two special purpose campuses, university libraries, and a comprehensive set of academic affairs services and units.
