Local Man Serving as a Volunteer Chaplain in Sutherland Springs

When disaster hits, the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention Disaster Relief chaplains are some of the first to respond.

Gordon Knight of College Station said there are 12 volunteer chaplains on site in Sutherland Springs where a gunman took 26 lives and injured 20 more when he opened fire in a church on Sunday.

Knight says they walk through town, among the people, offering prayer and comfort.

“Offering hope and the greatest thing we can offer people as chaplains, as Christians, is the hope in Christ that He brings. God didn’t cause this, man caused this,” said Knight.

Knight said they will stay in the town, which he compared to the size of Snook, as long as the community needs them.

“I think it’s beginning to sink in now, just how horrific this is,” said Knight who described finding many people just sobbing over what has happened.

Thank you to the Texas A&M Athletics Department and let's beat those boys from Bama!
