Aggie Soccer Trio Earns SEC Honors

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies had three players honored as the Southeastern Conference released the All-SEC teams, as voted on by the league’s coaches, Sunday afternoon.

Senior goalkeeper Danielle Rice and junior forward Haley Pounds received All-SEC Second Team accolades and midfielder Grace Piper was named to the SEC All-Freshman squad.

Rice has played all 1,656 minutes in goal for the Aggies. She ranks second in the SEC with a 0.92 goals-against average and has posted five shutouts on the season. The Westlake, Texas product has made saves on two penalty kicks on the season.

Pounds is Texas A&M’s top scoring threat in 2016. She ranks seventh in the SEC in points (23) and goals (8) and eighth in assists (7). The Spring, Texas native leads the Aggies with four-game-winning goals on the year. It marks the second All-SEC recognition for Pounds who was tabbed an All-SEC Second Team performer in 2015.

Piper, who has primarily spent her rookie campaign as a holding midfielder, has played in 16 matches in 2016, including 14 starts. She ranks second on the squad with four goals and nine points. She’s played a key role in an Aggie defense that ranks second in the SEC with a 0.92 goals-against average.

Texas A&M wrapped up the regular-season with a 10-7-1 mark and tied for sixth place in the league standings at 5-5-1. The Aggies open up play at the SEC Tournament Monday when they play the Alabama Crimson Tide in a 6 p.m. contest.
