Affidavit: Ex-Texas Tech player stole guns in burglary

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) _ An arrest affidavit says a Texas Tech football player who was kicked off the team earlier this month stole at least seven guns after burglarizing a home in December.

The affidavit says Robert James Castaneda told investigators he broke into the Lubbock home on Dec. 20 and took a safe with seven weapons.

Investigators say they were led to Castaneda after one of the stolen weapons was found in a pawnshop.

Castaneda is free on bond after being arrested Friday on a charge of burglary of a habitation. A phone number listed for Castaneda was disconnected, and court┬árecords don’t list an attorney for him.

Lt. Ray Mendoza says Lubbock police are investigating the possible involvement of two other people and waiting to present their findings to a grand jury.
