Five Rezonings Approved By CS Council

More housing and more restaurants are coming to College Station, following city council action Thursday night to rezone two properties.

The council had no comment, nor were there public speakers, before a unanimous vote allowing property along Wellborn between Luther and Tarrow Park to become an apartment complex with a restaurant.

The council also approved rezoning land for a restaurant at the northwest corner of University and Eisenhower.

No details were released of what restaurants are being built at either location.

The only comments from the council and/or the public on five rezoning requests, was the council’s 6-1 vote to rezone land behind the fire station at University and Tarrow to allow the construction of a new home at Tarrow and Banks.

Blanche Brick sided with the opponents who reported college students placing their families in danger by driving too fast, having loud parties, and violating occupancy limits in rental homes.

The council majority, including Julie Schultz, told opponents to continue reporting problems to the respective city office.

The fire department will investigate whether parking should be banned on one side of neighborhood streets, and there was an interest in a 20 mile per hour speed limit on side streets off Tarrow between University and Lincoln.

But the council turned down a request to add street signs stating “Children At Play” after hearing from the city’s transportation coordinator, Danielle Singh.

The council also approved zoning changes for a small tract north of the intersection of Wellborn and Green Prairie Road to allow for office space, and on about three acres between Wellborn and Royder Road to allow low-density commercial uses to cater to nearby residents.
