Humane Society’s Kathy Bice on WTAW

An area woman is undergoing a round of rabies shots after a bite from a kitten she was attempting to help.

Kathy Bice with the Aggieland Humane Society said the kitten had been attacked by a rabid skunk.

She said armadillos, opossoms, squirrels and rabbits are examples of low-risk animals, but to be especially aware of skunks and bats.

Bice said¬†residents should be on alert for strange behavior in pets and wildlife, and don’t hesitate to contact authorities if bitten since rabies is fatal if not treated.
