The Monday after spring break, the Bryan school board will decide whether to change teacher pay to a merit system based on student achievement and growth.

Battelle for Kids is an Ohio not-for-profit company that submitted a proposal called “Support around Compensation System Design and Multiple Measures Selection”.

Translated, it means adding incentive pay for teachers at academically high-risk schools.

Deputy Superintendent Tim Rocka says they’re responding to requests from principals who want to slow down teacher turnover.

Superintendent Tommy Wallis says the new pay plan would begin in the 2015-16 school year.

During the workshop it was mentioned it would cost the district at least $100,000 dollars to employ the consultant. The specific amount of the contract won’t be revealed until the meeting on March 17th.
