Unlicensed Salvage Yard Applies for Area’s First Permit

On Wednesday, an unlicensed auto salvage yard in Bryan remained under investigation for their failure to acquire proper permits from the county and state.

Brazos County commissioners held a public hearing two weeks ago about the operator of the car-crushing business.

County Judge Duane Peters said among the opponents who spoke at the public hearing were the developers of more than six hundred homes across the road from the salvage yard.

The operation, located on Chick Lane just outside the west Bryan city limits (map below), was across the road from a proposed park that’s part of the site where more than six hundred homes have been planned.

Peters said he expected the commission to act in the next few weeks on the owner’s application for a salvage permit, the first since new regulations were passed last year.
