Bryan ISD Names Will Compton as Rudder Head Football Coach and Athletic Coord.

New coach will oversee a new era of UIL district alignment

Coach William “Will” Compton was selected today to lead the football program and coordinate athletics at Rudder High School. The Bryan ISD Board of Trustees approved the recommendation of Superintendent Tommy Wallis and Athletic Director Harry Francis to appoint Coach Compton. He comes to Bryan ISD from Conroe Oak Ridge High School, where he served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Throughout his 11-year career, Compton has been asked to travel to new coaching appointments by head coaches, as they moved and took on new assignments. Compton led a state rated ‘top 20’ 5A rushing offense at Oak Ridge. The team was previously 2-18 over two seasons but progressed to 7-4 this year.

“My family and I are very excited to be Rudder Rangers and to become a part of this community,” Compton said. “We are blessed to bring our two boys to Bryan.”

Compton’s coaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of building strong relationships with student athletes.

“I work to make sure that all of our players feel like a part of my family,” Compton said. “We emphasize academics, values, hard work and overcoming adversities to ensure success.”

Compton will serve as only the second head coach of Rudder’s football program, which launched in 2007. He replaces Coach C.M. Pier, who stepped down in December.

“We are optimistic and excited about Coach Compton joining Bryan ISD as the Rangers’ football program enters this new era,” Wallis said. “His leadership, character and mentorship will enrich the lives and experiences of our student athletes.”

At Rudder, Compton will oversee the new UIL district alignment, which will be released on Monday.

Compton’s past coaching positions include serving as offensive coordinator at John Tyler High School (leading a 2010 state rated ‘top 5’ 4A offense), assistant athletic director at Mabank ISD and offensive coordinator positions at La Marque ISD and Refugio ISD.

He earned his bachelor of kinesiology at Angelo State University in 2002 and received a master’s in educational administration from Lamar University in 2010.
