Friday 6:30 a.m.
Crews report the formation of black ice throughout the region. Unlike precipitation, black ice does not typically form in a uniform manner, so its presence should be expected.
Friday 5:30 a.m.
Winter weather issues are being reported across all 10 counties in the Bryan District (Brazos, Burleson, Freestone, Leon, Madison, Milam, Grimes, Robertson, Walker, and Washington). Travel is discouraged at this time.
Thursday 7:45 p.m.
Robertson, Milam and Freestone Counties have ice on their bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas County wide. Burleson, Leon, and Grimes Counties are pretreating for ice with magnesium chloride. Brazos County is also pretreating their areas.
Thursday 6:45 p.m.
Robertson and Milam Counties are starting to see icy on their bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas. We are hitting these areas with magniziemuem chloride and grade 5 rock to improve traction in these areas. Motorists are still advised not to travel unless necessary.
Sleet, ice and freezing rain can create extremely dangerous driving conditions, which is why the Texas Department of Transportation strongly advises drivers to stay off the roads as much as possible. If drivers must be on the road, please remember to:
· Reduce speed
· Increase following distance
· Use extra caution on bridges, ramps, overpasses
· Stay back at least 200 feet from vehicles treating roadways
· If you start to slide, ease off the gas pedal or brakes and steer in to direction of skid
· Avoid unnecessary travel
