Two Accused of Stealing Copper from A&M Construction Site

Texas A&M University police made two arrests Tuesday related to two thefts from a construction site.

According to the arrest report, the first of two officers arrived at the new married housing complex on Hensel to follow up on an earlier theft, when he saw a car and a pickup loaded with what turned out to be 750 pounds of copper.

28 year old Alex Cortez of Austin and 35 year old Eleazar Martinez of Leander remain in jail on a hold for immigration authorities.

A third person seen by officers loading the copper into the vehicles was not listed in jail records.

The value of the spooled copper was estimated at $1,800 hundred dollars.
