Southwest Pilots Land at Wrong Airport

DALLAS (AP) _ Southwest Airlines says the pilots of a plane that landed at the wrong airport in Missouri have been grounded.

Airline spokeswoman Brandy King said Monday that the captain and first officer were removed from flying duties while the airline and federal aviation safety officials investigate the mistake.

King says the captain is in his 15th year flying for Southwest.

The pilots were at the controls of a Boeing 737 flying from Chicago to Branson, Missouri when they landed at a smaller nearby airport with a much shorter runway that ends at a steep embankment.

The Southwest Airlines jet involved in the incident took off from M. Graham Clark Downtown Airport in Missouri’s Taney County bound for Tulsa, Oklahoma with substitute pilots around mid-afternoon today.
