Safety Maintenance in 2014Featured Stories, News Tuesday, January 7th, 2014
The New Year is a great time for a fresh start and to make sure everything in your home is in order.
Fire Marshall William Bouse with the Bryan Fire Department says common fire starters are dirty dryer vents, old bathroom vents, and if you fry a lot, kitchen vents.
Bouse says to replace bathroom vents that are ten to fifteen years old.
He says to clean a kitchen vent, take down the filter and remove grease with hot soapy water, plus make sure metal filters are in good shape.
He says to repair any switch that feels loose, crackles when you flip it, or doesn’t come on immediately, and fix outlets where the plugs works themselves loose.
Bouse says, after all, it’s a lot cheaper to fix a two dollar switch than a two-hundred-thousand dollar home.
