Bryan Council Approves Rezoning RequestsFeatured Stories, News Wednesday, December 11th, 2013
The Bryan city council gave preliminary approval to a pair of rezoning requests during Tuesday night’s meeting.
A council majority supported sidewalks on one side of streets instead of both sides in the latest phase of home construction in the Austin’s Colony development.
In exchange, the developer will build a ten foot path connecting Austin’s Colony Park to Sam Rayburn Middle School sometime next year.
Neighborhood residents who were opposed included Carolyn Buckley.121013-Comments-from-Carolyn-Buckley.mp3
Mayor Jason Bienski said it was a fair trade to take the developer’s offer.121013-Comments-from-Jason-Bienski.mp3
The council’s 5-2 vote followed last month’s 5-3 vote by the planning and zoning commission.
In a separate request, the council unanimously supported adding five acres to the north side of the new Wal-Mart in west Bryan. The council was also told the new Wal-Mart at Villa Maria and Harvey Mitchell Parkway is supposed to open in a couple of months.
