Queen Theater Receives Historical Marker

November 21st has been a significant date in the history of the Queen Theater in downtown Bryan.

The latest was Thursday with the unveiling of a historical marker.

Ben Hardeman, who has been leading the restoration effort of the Queen, says the Queen will celebrate its 100th anniversary on November 21st of next year.

Queen supporters plan to complete the interior by the centennial.

The building, originally opened in 1889 as The Stoddard Hotel, became the Queen in 1914.

The Queen reopened in 1939, also on November 21 following a renovation that included air conditioning and the revolving crown.

The crown came down in 2010, again on November 21, for restoration.
