Charges Dropped Against One in Cypress House Shooting

HOUSTON (AP) _ A community activist says a Houston-area man formerly charged in a deadly shooting at a weekend house party deserves an apology from authorities for being falsely accused.

Willie Young was released from Harris County Jail late Tuesday afternoon after prosecutors dropped a deadly-conduct charge.

Activist Quanell X greeted Young when the 21-year-old ex-suspect emerged from jail and stood next to Young as he addressed reporters. Young declined to comment to reporters, but the activist said investigators had falsely accused Young in a rush to judgment. Quanell X called Young “a hero” who helped take wounded people to a hospital.

Harris County authorities said later police interviews with partygoers contradicted earlier witnesses who said they saw Young fire a weapon. Another man remains in custody.
