College Station Fire Department Review of First Call to The Rise

This week was the College Station Fire Department’s first response to the 17 story Northgate student housing complex.

Interim Fire Chief Eric Hurt says the kitchen fire in a seventh floor apartment at The Rise wasn’t any worse than it was can be credited to city codes for fire supression and alarm systems.

Also helping was the timing of Wednesday night’s call, which followed the afternoon commute.

Hurt says firefighters were aided by a walk-through before The Rise opened.

Hurt says alarms also sounded two floors above and the floor below the fire floor.

Hurt says the evacuation was orderly and there were no issues with those outside the complex.

No one was hurt.
