Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel Out of Sling, Will Play vs. Vanderbilt

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel is expected to play Saturday against Vanderbilt, a source told CBS Sports’ Bruce Feldman.

Aggies wide receiver Mike Evans told reporters that Manziel was in a sling during Monday’s practice, calling into doubt his availability for Saturday’s game at home against the Commodores. However, Feldman reports that Manziel is “fine to play” and is now out of the sling — which, according to senior wide receiver Travis Labhart, was a restrictive measure used to prevent Manziel from throwing.

Manziel sustained a shoulder injury early in the fourth quarter of Texas A&M’s 45-41 loss to Auburn. In the GIF below (via SB Nation) you can see he fell on his right shoulder after scrambling. Matt Joeckel finished the drive for the Aggies, which ended in a field goal.

Manziel returned to the game and finished with 454 yards passing and four touchdowns. But Auburn’s defensive line proved too much in the final moments of the fourth quarter. The Tigers kept Manziel contained and did not allow him to replicate the game-winning drive he led at Ole Miss the week before.
