Proposal to Eliminate Brazos County JPFeatured Stories, News Monday, October 14th, 2013
Tuesday morning’s meeting of the Brazos County Commission includes a proposal to eliminate a Justice of the Peace position.
County Judge Duane Peters says a public hearing will be held at 10:15, followed by possible action, to abolilsh the Precinct 2, Place 2 seat now held by Tommy Munoz.
Peters says the Place 2 JP, created around 2000, originally took care of truancy issues in 24 schools. Now it’s down to seven, with the rest being handled by the Precinct 2 Place 1 and the Precinct 4 JP’s.
Peters would like to make a decision before November 9, the first day of filing for that position in next year’s election.
Munoz is in his second term, after being elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2010.
Peters says two of the three clerical positions in Place 2 would work for the Place 1 JP. One would start immediately and the other would transfer when Place 2 is dissolved at the end of 2014.
Peters estimates budget savings at $100,000 dollars.
