Montgomery County Murder Witnessed by 12 Year Old

PORTER, Texas (AP) _ A man has been charged with killing his parents at a Houston-area home in an attack allegedly witnessed by a 12-year-old relative.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says 24-year-old Joseph Samuel Branstetter was being held without bond Wednesday on a capital murder charge. No information was available on an attorney for Branstetter, who was arrested at the scene Tuesday night.

Investigators say the girl called 911 to report her uncle shot her grandparents at the home near Porter and drove away.

Deputies found the girl outside. The body of 58-year-old Cathy Gibbs was in the driveway and her husband, 54-year-old Randall Branstetter, was dead in the home.

Deputies were seeking Joseph Branstetter when he returned and surrendered. A gun was in his vehicle.

Authorities didn’t immediately release a possible motive.
