HOUSTON (AP) _ A memorial service for a teenager stabbed to death in his Houston-area school was marred by a fight and gunfire, according to police.
The Houston Chronicle reports that the altercation Sunday night just after 8 p.m. at Spring Baptist Church sent teenagers and other attendees scrambling for cover in the pews.
Christina Garza, a spokeswoman for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, says gunshots were fired outside the church. She says no injuries were reported and no arrests were made.
Seventeen-year-old Luis Alonzo Alfaro has been charged in the Sept. 4 stabbing death of 17-year-old Joshua Devon Broussard during a fight in the school cafeteria that police have described as likely gang-related.
SPRING, Texas (AP) _ Students return to classes at a high school in a northern Houston suburb five days after a deadly knife attack closed it.
Classes resume Monday at Spring High School in Spring, where the Wednesday knifing killed one student and wounded three others.
Luis Alonzo Alfaro, a 17-year-old student, has been charged with murder in the stabbing that left 17-year-old Joshua Devon Broussard dead on the floor of a school corridor.
Investigators say Alfaro told them the fight began when he bumped a different youth in the school cafeteria.
But Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigators said Thursday that gang rivalry appears to be the motive in the slaying at Spring High School in Spring.
Alfaro is jailed on $150,000 bond.
