ESPN College GameDay in Aggieland This Weekend

ESPN announced College GameDay will originate from College Station next week for the much-anticipated rematch of top-ranked Alabama and Texas A&M on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The College GameDay set will located at Texas A&M’s historic Simpson Drill Field and give ESPN’s national television audience a scenic view of The Zone at Kyle Field and overlook the newly-renovated Memorial Student Center.

It will be College GameDay’s fourth visit to Aggieland and second in as many seasons. The three previous visits were Sept. 8, 2012 (No. 24 Florida def. Texas A&M, 20-17), Nov. 4, 2006 (No. 18 Oklahoma def. No. 21 Texas A&M, 17-16) and Nov. 11, 2000 (No. 1 Oklahoma def. No. 24 Texas A&M, 35-31).

In last year’s meeting, the Aggies jumped out to a 20-0 lead and then held on for a 29-24 win over the then-No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Ala. It would be the lone blemish on Alabama’s slate as the Crimson Tide went on to win its second straight BCS National Championship. The win vaulted Texas A&M into the top 10, and the Aggies went on to finish No. 5 nationally with a victory over Oklahoma in the AT&T Cotton Bowl.

It will be Alabama’s second-ever trip to College Station. In 1988, the Crimson Tide handed Texas A&M a 30-10 defeat in the famed “Hurricane Bowl.” That game was originally scheduled for Sept. 17, 1988, but was postponed to Dec. 1 due to the threat of Hurricane Gilbert.
