There’s been an arrest in the theft of a tip jar from a Northgate bar.

A College Station policeman on bicycle patrol shortly after closing time Saturday morning was stopped by a witness who saw the theft from the upstairs bar at Basil Whippets.

20 year old George Smith Jr. of Southlake is accused of struggling with an employee, during which the glass jar broke.

The employee received a cut deep enough to require emergency room treatment.

Smith, who several employees said is a frequent customer, was arrested for stealing the jar, which contained $114, along with public intoxication and resisting arrest and resisting transport to jail.

Smith is out of jail after posting bonds totaling $13,435.
