Did You See This A&M Yell Leader?Featured Stories, News Saturday, August 31st, 2013
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) _ Texas A&M University’s new Yell Leader, the man who leads crucial chants at football games and other events, took a path through the military and Iraq to fulfill his dream.
The Bryan Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/17vZI9S ) Saturday 34-year-old Roy May Jr. says he has dreamed of being Texas A&M’s Yell Leader since he was 4. His dream came true last spring when students elected him to a post once held by Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
May, though, took an unusual path. Married and the father of an 8-year-old daughter, May first spent 12 years in the Army. In 2009, he was deployed to Iraq. May is a staff sergeant who is a career counselor in the Army Reserves. May hopes to graduate in 2015 with a degree in industrial distribution.
