TxDOT update 2:10 p.m. One lane of traffic is open.
A Domino’s Pizza semi headed to Brenham from Bryan Friday morning was involved in a crash that closed Highway 105 over the Brazos River bridge between Navasota and Brenham.
According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Jimmy Morgan, the driver told investigators something happened to the right front wheel of the semi tractor.
That caused the rig to pull to the right and strike the guardrail and the bridge.
Then the semi and trailer went down the bridge railing about 300 feet when the fuel tanks ignited and caught the trailer on fire.
Morgan says the driver and passenger, who had been in the sleeper compartment, got out and both escaped injury.
The driver was identified as 28 year old Jose Barajas-Aguirre and the passenger was 29 year old Adrian Gaston, both of Euless.
The crash was reported around 6 a.m. Once the fire was extinguished the Texas Department of Transportation inspected the bridge and declared it was structurally sound for traffic.

TxDOT has inspected the bridge, it has been declared structurally safe, and once debris has been removed the bridge will be reopened.
There are three bridges in this area. The one that is closed is the Brazos River bridge.
The driver and passenger in the semi escaped injury. No other vehicles were involved.
TxDOT update at 9:30 a.m.:
The fire on the deck of the bridge has been put out. Wreckers are in route to move the 18-wheeler. Hazmat crews are also in route to clean the accident (diesel spill). TxDOT’s contractors are working on the guard rail damage caused by the accident. We are hopeful to have one lane of traffic open in the next couple of hours. TxDOT will keep you all posted on any updates.
