A Bryan man with a previous conviction of assault against a family member has bonded out of jail at $200,000.

Officer Kelley McKethan says Brandon Mendez, 19, is accused of physically assaulting his girlfriend, the same victim for whom he received a previous family assault conviction, as well as threatening her with a knife, making her drive him through the city, and taking her car at knife point.

McKethan says his girlfriend asked police for help with bleeding injuries but she refused medical treatment.

McKethan wants you to get help if you are trapped in domestic violence.

She says victims can always come to the police department and even bring a friend for support, or at least tell a friend.

She says even though it can be scary to take that first step because it seems like things will get worse, if you don’t tell anyone, family violence cases everywhere show that it definitely will get worse if you don’t tell.
