Stricter Abortion Bill Dies

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst has acknowledged that Republicans missed the deadline to pass new abortion restrictions after protesters shouted down lawmakers before the special legislative session’s deadline. The acknowledgment came after senators from both parties met privately with Dewhurst. Protesters erupted 15 minutes before midnight when Republicans suspended an 11-hour filibuster staged by Democratic Senator Wendy Davis.
