Backlash to Health Department Doctor Eating TacoFeatured Stories, News Friday, May 24th, 2013
There’s been a backlash to this week’s decision by the Brazos County Health Department’s Health Authority to eat a taco from the restaurant identified as the source of recent E.coli infections.
Among those fielding phone calls and e-mails is county commissioner Kenny Mallard, who serves on the health department’s advisory board and attended Dr. Eric Wilke’s news conference.
Mallard said “Obviously, it has upset some people so we’ll try to visit with Dr. Wilke about it and talk it out. Obviously, I don’t think that was his intent to upset anyone but sometimes things don’t turn out like you plan.”
Mallard also said “Could it have been done better? Probably so. But I think what he was trying to do is to let folks know that the problem had been found and know where it occured and that was the main thing that the Health District is trying to do.”
Wilke told WTAW News he has decided to curtail public comment.
